A wide area extending from Nantes to Bordeaux and from the Atlantic coast to Bourges is receiving some flashes during the morning hours of Saturday 13 of February. The activity is expected to move inland in the following hours.

Weak lightning over part of the Balkans (13/02/2016)

Some lightning is recorded over the southern parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro during the morning hours of Saturday 13th of February. The phenomena are caused by a low pressure system currently situated in the Balkans. According to our forecasts flashes will occur during the following hours over adjacent regions of Albania, Greece and FYROM.

East Adriatic coasts battered by lightning (10/2/016)

The coasts of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro are experiencing significant lightning activity which begun around 05:00 over the northeastern coasts of Italy. The phenomena are the result of the passing of a cold front from the area moving towards southeast.

Lightning bolt kills 3 in Kapiri-Mposhi, Zambia (10/2/2016)

A 36-year-old woman and her two children aged 18 and six have died after being struck by lightning in Kapiri Mposhi, Central Province commissioner of police Lombe Kamukoshi has said. Ms Kamukoshi said in an interview yesterday that this happened on Saturday 6 of February 2016 in Mukonchi around 15:00 hours while the family was working in a maize field during a downpour.

Weather warnings as storms continue to lash France (9/2/2016)

Weather warnings remained in place for much of France on Tuesday as high winds, heavy rain and giant waves continued to lash the country. In all 22 departments in the west and north of France were placed on Orange alert by the weather service Météo France as the extreme weather, which arrived on Sunday, continued to batter parts of the country.

Widespread activity is reported over maritime and coastal areas of English Channel and North Sea during the morning hours of Monday, 8th of February 2016. The activity which is generated by a deep low pressure system located over Ireland and the British islands is expected to keep up for the next 2 to 3 hours.

Moderate activity over Greek Islands (5/2/2016)

Eastern Aegean Greek Islands are currently (morning hours of the 5th of February) experiencing moderate lightning activity. The activity is associated to a low pressure system that is centered over the Aegean Sea and affects significant parts of the eastern Mediterranean. The Ionian Sea coasts of Greece are also experiencing some weak activity that is not expected to strengthen.

Lightning kills teacher attending football workshop in Shah Alam, Malaysia (29/01/2016)

A teacher was killed after he was struck by lightning at a secondary school in Jalan Wau. In Thursday's incident, the 32-year-old teacher and four of his colleagues were seeking shelter from the rain when tragedy struck at around 4.20pm.

Lightning kills 1 and injures 4 in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe (28/01/2016)

An African Apostolic Church member died on Monday (25/01/2016), while four others sustained various injuries after they were struck by a lightning bolt during a prayer session at an open space in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza. Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident and urged people to take precautionary measures to avoid fatalities or injuries when it is raining.

A low pressure system currently (morning of the 19th of January 2016) located over central Corsica, affects the weather of the area, resulting to some lightning activity over the coastal areas of Algeria and Tunisia. The maritime area between Corsica and Sicilia is also experiencing a fair amount of lightning activity.

Eastern Mediterranean continues to experience significant activity (18/01/2015)

Maritime and coastal areas of the southern Greece are recording widespread lightning activity. South Ionian, Aegean and the Libyan sea are receiving a significant number of flashes. The activity is expected to move eastwards and affect Cyprus during the day.
